Mike, please see my comment on general discussion about puppy biting.   See if you have any new ideas for me.

Angie...first, sorry for the late response.  I was having technical difficulties.  I know we talked about this today but for others who may need a response:

In order to correct this behavior you have to be in control of the dog.  When he starts play biting are you placing him in a position in which you have total control over him (i.e. between your knees?)  Remember if you try a muzzle correction and Hank is able to squirm away from you this is only building his confidence and making him think he is winning the battle.  Do not attempt a muzzle correction unless you are able and committed to holding him until he submits fully (no more struggling or fighting).

Through time and consistency this will work.  One thing you can do is set up the situation where you can be in control of him.  If this occurs when you are playing with him on the floor, put him on a leash before you start playing.  Put the end of the 6' leash under your knee so that when he starts to play bite he cannot get away from you and you can properly perform the muzzle correction.  This prevents him from being able to escape and stops him from thinking this is a "keep away" game by running from you.

Remember he is a very young puppy.  Don't be overdemanding but be consistent.  He needs LOTS of exercise, and increased exercise will probably decrease his "negative excitable" behavior, such as the biting.
