with 3 high energy dogs, and a constant battle to excercise, hiking is a great way to get some activity with your dog and get some outdoor time for yourself.  my favorite place i have found so far is bellbrooke, 5 rivers metro park.  the green loop takes about an hour and is not too challenging.  have never found a tick and well grooomed trails and clearly marked.  you pretty much have to stay on leash this time of year because the trees are covered with leaves and you can't always see who is approaching.  i have also tried a loop at the ceasears creek nature center.  this trail is much more challenging and ticks are a problem.  your chance to see wildlife are much better as this trail is scarcely used.  another good spot, paved the entire way, one mile loop is north park, take as many loops as you want, you go behind a residential area and a good place to practice ob with dogs running in there fence.

i would like to hear your favorite places.  looking for some new scenery.  don't be shy, post.

If you're ever up in the Sidney area, you've gotta go to Tawawa park.  It has paved and unpaved places to walk/hike.  There isn't a lot of wildlife to speak of, but plenty of ppl and their pets.  There are 2 ponds and quite a few streams where the dogs can cool off on a hot day.  It's very beautiful, especially this time of year!

John Bryan State Park in Yellow Springs is wonderful for hiking as well.  Beautiful area; your choice of longer trails or shorter ones; trails that go right down along the Little Miami River; one goes to a gorge, and the list goes on.  There are also picnic areas (some with charcoal grills)  when you are finished if you are so inclined.   Like other hiking places and North Park, it's especially beautiful this time of year!

If you guys want to know the best hiking areas around you gotta ask the person who takes their dog hiking the most... Becky, she knows all the good spots and will gladly share them with you if you ask her.

We like hiking at Germantown Reserve.  It is close to our house and doesn't get too crowded.  If we're going to go camping over the weekend, my absolute favorite place is Red River Gorge.  It's nice and cool down in the gorge and the views are beautiful!  The primitive camping areas are more fun to camp with dogs.  We're able to give our dog a little more freedom than in a campground.
