I got a new puppy on 9/22/09. He is an 8 week old mix breed. I will be maintaining this blog with photos, vidoes and updates as he grows....watch how we develop a puppy into a well trained pet in less than a year.

Knox is doing well. Went to see Dr. Beall this week for his first check up. Dr. Beall gave him a thumbs up.
Worked on some Ob. and some more confidence bldg. exersices this week. I dont think socialization is going to be a problem with Knox. He is so friendly with everyone he meets. He is very mouthy though (driving Kim crazy).
I told everyone that I am trying some different things with this dog. He has only eaten a couple of meals out of a bowl. It mostly has come from my hand and he has worked for it. I also bought one of those interactive toys for him. Getting him to use his brain to figure out how to survive.
More photos to be posted later.

Thank you for all your responses!!! After much discussion we have settled on a name. And the winner is >>>drum role<<<
KNOX
Congratulations to Jonah!!!
There were so many great names suggested and I really appreciate the thought that went into them. Many are great tributes to our brave military and founding fathers. It was a difficult decision on my part!
Check back as I will continue to update you on Knox's progress.

Things are going pretty well. The whole puppy thing is tough (as most of you know). Loads of responsability. Getting up every few hours and, with our busy schedules, keeping those breaks consistant is hard. Also making sure the dog gets plenty of exercise is important.
One of the training tips we give new puppy owners is, don't put to much confidence in your new puppy to soon. Example..."My puppy was doing so well with the house training and now..."
What has more than likely happened is the puppy didn't have an accident in the house for a few days and the owner let the dog have more freedom in the house which equals the dog backsliding in the house training process.
Supervision is key, not only in house training but preventing all puppy problems.
Keep yourselves posted and we will show some pics and video soon.

Hey all,
Last night went OK. The puppy slept through most of the night. He woke up around 3am. so I drug my sorry butt out of bed and took him out.
I took him through some confidence building exercises today. He did great! Seems to be pretty food motivated, so thats good.
I tell clients of mine when they have a puppy this age the two most important things to teach your puppy are socialization and confidence. That is because alot of adult dog problems come from a lack of these two things. We'll see.
